schadet effektiv dem Sumo-Ethos durch die Übermittlung der
Nachricht, dass Champions geboren und nicht gemacht werden, und dass
Respekt eine Einbahnstraße ist. Der Blick, den er Dejima zuwarf,
könnte von jemandem stammen, der gerade wegen eines Henkas das
Yusho verloren hatte. Wie kann man "Wie kannst Du es wagen?" sagen,
nachdem man fair und gerade ausgeschaltet wurde? Bei solchen
Gelegenheiten ist der Blick nach innen – und nicht der nach außen
– eine Kerntugend des Sumo.
Ich spreche nur für mich – als ich das erste Mal Sumo sah, wenn die

Torikumi
ohne die schrille, schnökelhafte Stimme und Sumo ohne die Roben
der Gyoji und Yobidashi, zusammen mit Verzierungen wie Chikara-mizu,
Shikiri, Dohyo-iri, etc. und die ganze Hinkaku-Symbolik, die alles
zusammenfügte, gewesen wäre, wäre es nie mehr als eine
vergängliches Kuriosum für mich geworden – sicher nichts,
dass jemals Leidenschaft erzeugt hätte. Wenn das meine Ansicht
ist, dann kann ich verstehen, wie diese Männer sich fühlen
müssen. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Kokugi (Nationalsportarten)
verströmt Sumo nicht nur eine Kultur, sondern will sie auch
bewahren. Wenn der Yokozuna durch sein Tun und Nichttun erlaubt, dass
dieser Wert sichtbar beschädigt

wird –
als die bekanntesten Verwalter dieses Kokugi dachten sie, sie
hätten die öffentliche Pflicht, eilig darauf zu reagieren.
Für diese Männer stehen mehr als die persönlichen
Vermächtnisse auf dem Spiel – es ist das Vermächtnis des
Ozumo selbst – und so war es nicht unvorhersehbar, dass die eine
gewisse Notwendigkeit verspürten, so zu reagieren, wie sie es
taten.
Und so wird es also an Osaka liegen, wo hoffentlich irgendwer Hakuos
Zeh massieren und seinen Kopf freibekommen wird... oder wird es genau
andersrum werden?
