Besuche zum Asageiko im Kokonoe-Beya sind mir immer etwas unangenehm, Kokonoe Oyakata, der ehemalige Yokozuna Chiyonofuji, ist als Shimpan eine sehr genaue Erscheinung. Er ist ebenso in seinem Heya. Egal wie oft man dort war und wie perfekt man sich benommen hat, Chiyonofuji in seinem üblichen weißen Heya-Gewand, schielt aus dem Aufenthalts-/Essensraum auf die neuen Besucher. Eines Tages öffnete er eine der Türen und ich stand 10cm von ihm entfernt Angesicht zu Angesicht. Nachdem ich mich höflich verbeugt, ein “ohayo gozaimasu” (guten morgen!) geflüstert hatte, wies er mir einen der Zabuton zu, um dem Training folgen zu können. Ich war sehr erleichtert.
An diesem feuchten, kalten morgen im Mai fragten wir die jungen Rikishi, die damit beschäftigt waren Lebensmittel und andere Pakete durch die Hintertüre ins Heya zu schaffen, ob wir eintreten dürften. Wir waren zufrieden, dass wir ohne

weiteres eintreten konnten und uns außerdem die genaue Musterung durch den Oyakata erspart blieb.
