le public attendait un tachiai de feu, dans lequel Stoyanov
s’était montré brillant dans les combats
précédents, mais la montagne a accouché d’une
souris quand Byamba l’a emporté sur henka et hatakikomi. Hans
Borg, un favori désigné, a remporté le bronze.
Avec son expérience de lutte pro, il a toujours
été enclin à relancer la foule qui, en raison
d’une très bonne ambiance chauffée par de la bière
et du saké excellents, a été plus que
coopérative.
La foule s’est vraiment enflammée pour la compétition
open masculine, avec ses remakes de David et Goliath. Il y a eu
quelques surprises qui auraient bien fait voler quelques zabuton – s’il
y en avait eu, bien sûr ! – Trent Sabo (USA) de Oceanside Sumo
Kyokai (http://www.oceansidesumo.com/)
en a créé une en contournant un de ses adversaires pour
l’emporter sur okuridashi. Hélas, il tombe plus tard sur un os,
en l’occurrence une puissante projection de Stoyanov, pour laquelle il
n’existe pas de kimarite véritablement adapté pour
décrire la vitesse à laquelle il a quitté le dohyo
– et le temps qu’il a passé en l’air. En fin de compte, on a eu
droit à un remake de la finale poids lourds, entre Byamba et
Stoyanov. Byamba triomphe encore, cette fois-ci sans l’aide d’une
henka. Bayanbat Davaadalai s’adjuge le bronze dans cette
catégorie.

|
Les compétitions
féminines ont vu seulement cinq athlètes s’opposer, avec
Michelle Pike (USA – poids légers) et Florence Bannout (USA –
poids moyens) remportant seules leurs divisions. Les poids lourds ont
vu de belles compétitions, en particulier entre Dashdalum Sambuu
(MON) et Lindsay Hood (USA). Sambuu a été la plus forte
au final, remportant la compétition poids lourds puis open.
Lindsay Hood remporte l’argent chez les lourds et le bronze en open,
Florence Bannout créant là la surprise en remportant
l’argent. Elizabeth Grey prend le bronze chez les lourds. Les
résultats complets sont ci-dessous. Un compte-rendu plus

juin de SFM.
