Sumo Quiz
The Quizmaster
Answer the Qs and win yourself next basho’s banzuke.

10-5 will take him up a fair few slots, so it is time to see what he is truly made of. Potentially a hard upper makunouchi basho, if he can stay low and avoid being pushed upright too soon in a bout and can time his ‘nage’ techniques well, no reason he won’t get a kachikoshi. Prediction for Hatsu – a strong 8-7 or even a 9-6 if positioned around maegashira 6 or 7.

Kotooshu – the big call. Lauded as the first European born ozeki in sumo history, the big question is based on how he will react. People already refer to him as the next yokozuna and
maybe he will be – has to start handling the pressure of the rank first and with no real expectations on the current trio, that could be all the greater. It would be good to see him hit the ‘minimum’ ozeki figure of double figures but as a target for the chasing pack, things might not all go his own way. Prediction – 10-5 with wins over 2 of his fellow ozeki – Chiyotaikai and Kaio but losing out to Tochiazuma and the yokozuna plus an unexpected gaffe – or two? Kakizoe again?

Asashoryu – Hatsu basho yusho – the end! Seriously, what
more can be written about Asashoryu that hasn’t already been said? To that end – feel free to stop here and return to the top page.

Still here – OK – besides the yusho, that will make it eight in a row, look out for more comparisons with Taiho, Chiyonofuji and Kitanoumi, lots more media attention and all well deserved after a convincing 15-0 zensho.
