Kyokutenzan (East Makushita 48) was one of the five original Mongolians that came to Japan with Kyokushuzan and Kyokutenho in order to join Oshima Beya in 1992. Though his skill in Japanese developed much more quickly than Kyokushuzan and Kyokutenho, he appears destined to remain in the lower divisions. (This basho he was 1-6.) Notably, it was Kyokutenzan that convinced Kyokushuzan to stay in Japan when he and three other Mongolians fled to the Mongolian embassy six months after arriving. The abuse they received in keiko pushed them to leave the heya at night, but in the end Kyokushuzan was persuaded to come back while Kyokutenho traveled briefly to Mongolia before he too returned to Oshima.
