LV Sumo on TV?

I was wondering if the recent sumo match in Las Vegas is going to be televised? Do you know?
Thank you,
Juliette H.

Dear Juliette –
Thank you so much for your email. The only “televised” plan I am aware of is a brief, around 10 minute documentary on TVJapan, but it was not yet determined when that would be aired. NHK, the Japanese public TV station that was there to record the trip for posterity, indicated that there was a possibility of producing a DVD of the tournament highlights. This would, of course, be in Japanese, but if and when it becomes available, we will certainly have that information in our continual updates of current, pertinent information, as well as in a direct email to you.
Amateur sumo

Hello, I am a former U.S. lightweight amateur sumo tourn winner and current member of the SCSK (Southern California Sumo Kyokai). As a representative of the amateur (and lightweight) side of the sport I was just wondering if there is an any way you would be able to include (even if just a small section) amateur news and events in your magazine as well alongside your reviews and articles of professional sumo in Japan. I think it would be very beneficial, as well as appealing for those who may be wondering about the possibility of competing in their favorite sport outside of Japan, and to be provided with news, current events and tournament information etc. Many of the sport’s most die-hard fans are amateur participants as well. In the hope and spirit of providing news, updates (and hopefully opportunities) for this great
sport to all of its fans, I sincerely hope you will consider/and or respond to my request. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely, Trevor Roberts

Dear Trevor –
I hope you are happy with this issue and its articles on amateur sumo. Both our Editor-in-Chief, Mark Buckton, and our Photo Editor, John Gunning, are amasumo participants, as well as avid fans. We certainly do plan future articles on the amateur aspect of the sport and hope that you will continue to visit our online magazine for news, updates and reviews. -Ed.
