During the Hatsu Basho, popular Chinese rikishi Sokokurai from Inner
Mongolia made his juryo debut, the first sekitori debut by a Chinese
rikishi since Kiyonohana in 1974.
Quiet and hard-working, his sumo and his courteous behaviour have
both drawn appreciative comments.
