Surpassing this only slightly, and thus earning a somewhat undeserved ‘Upset of the Basho’ I have opted to go with Kotomitsuki’s slap-down of Tochiazuma on Day 6 – not because it was an iffy komusubi dumping a capable ozeki – but because it ended the yusho race and led to the aforementioned 9 day victory parade for the yokozuna and in the process forced everyone to view the basho differently. |
