Heavyweights of makuuchi division Kisenosato and Kotoshogiku have surprisingly much in common.

- They each weigh in at around the 170 kg mark.
- They made both their sumo debuts and their juryo division debuts one basho apart.
- Their career win-loss records are remarkably similar, with a three win difference between them.
- They were both ranked sekiwake at the recent Aki Basho, with three double-digit wins in their last four basho.
- Both scored 12-3 at the Aki Basho and were joint jun-yusho holders.
- Both have recent wins against the nearly untouchable Yokozuna Hakuho and added to those wins at the Aki Basho.

Kotoshogiku deservedly sealed his ozeki promotion at the end of the Aki Basho.
Perhaps Kisenosato will follow at the end of the upcoming Kyushu Basho?
