The oyakata entered around 9AM, but seemed more interested in the baseball results in the newspaper than what was going on in front of him. His purple mawashi was left by his side and he remained in just a pair of shorts. After an hour or so he left while telling Asasekiryu to take over “supervising” the keiko session. This, the Mongolian maegashira did with relish, choosing one of the lower-ranked rikishi and applying some “sumo love ” with the shinai (bamboo rod) several times. There were plenty of shocked and horrified faces among the first time visitors when they saw the deep cuts left on the back of his legs.

Asasekiryu then gave his victim the shinai and ordered him to use it on higher-ranked, but non-sekitori, rikishi. This was almost worse for the poor guy as he couldn’t disobey
